La Tourangelle Grapeseed Oil (500mL)
Code: LT02-GO
Price: $8.99
Quantity in Basket: none
La Tourangelle Grapeseed Oil.

Grapes have seduced humans for centuries with their fabled red and white nectars. But they have another aspect too: When pressed, tiny grapeseeds yield green-colored oil with remarkable properties. Grapeseed oil has a light flavor and contains a high level of polyunsaturated fat. It can also be heated up to 485°F, making it the ideal healthy cooking partner.

Usage
The kitchen is where grapeseed oil comes into its prime. With a smoke point of 485°F, the oil is easy to use in cooking and will make burnt oil a thing of the past. The nutty flavor works well in vinaigrettes with any type of vinegar, never overwhelming the other ingredients. Grapeseed oil is also commonly blended with more intensely flavored oils. Another fact to keep in mind is that grapeseed oil is an excellent substitute for butter or canola oil.

Health benefits
As one of the richest natural sources of linoleic acid, grapeseed oil can do wonders when it comes to fighting heart disease and bad cholesterol. Linoleic acid is a member of the polyunsaturated fatty acid family. These fatty acids tend to blend with cholesterol in the blood and transform it into something the body knows how to get rid of. Grapeseed oil is also used in skin products, aromatherapy and cosmetics.

Production process
Wine production is a cherished tradition in France, Italy, Spain, California, Chile and now all over the world. There are events commemorating the annual harvest and every step in the winemaking process. Lost in all the commotion, however, is a little secret: Once they have finished making their wine, the winemakers gather all the seeds, dry them and bring them to their local oil mill. There, a somewhat arduous process begins. Since the seeds are so tiny and abrasive, powerful machines are required to crush them. The process is very time-consuming since the seeds contain less than 10% oil. Imagine the vast quantity of seeds needed to produce one drum of oil!

La Tourangelle Roasted Walnut Oil (500mL)
Code: LT02-WO
Price: $10.99
Quantity in Basket: none
La Tourangelle's California Roasted Walnut Oil
La Tourangelle handcrafts this Roasted Walnut Oil in Woodland, California strictly following the 150-year-old traditional methods of its French sister oil mill. Slowly roasted to perfection, expeller-pressed and lightly filtered, this oil adds a rich walnut taste to salad dressing, pasta, grilled meat or fish, baked pastries, and is perfect to dip with bread.

Usage
Walnut oil is a delicious and easy-to-use oil. In salads, walnut oil mixes very well with balsamic vinegar or red wine vinegar to create a simple but flavorful vinaigrette. Also try it with tarragon white vinegar. It is also delicious on grilled fish or meat: A dab of walnut oil is the perfect touch for enhancing flavors and easing digestion when added towards the end of your beef bourguignon or meat dishes. You can also try it in pasta with cheese. Don't hesitate to use it in cakes and baked goods, particularly with apples or pears.

Temperature
Suitable for medium-high heat: Perfect for sautéing, baking, dipping, blending into a dressing/sauce, or drizzling on a finished dish.

Health benefits
La Tourangelle Roasted Walnut Oil is a rich source of omega 3 (1.4g per 1 Tbs.), which can help to prevent cardiovascular disease while acting as a counterweight to bad cholesterol. Since the oil is not refined, it also has a very high level of natural antioxidants. Walnut oil contains 72% polyunsaturated fat by content: 60% linolenic acid and 12% alpha-linolenic acid.

Production process
La Tourangelle is the first oil mill in California to produce walnut oil using traditional French methods. After harvesting, the nuts are washed, sorted, sun-dried for several days and stored for further drying. The walnut kernels are then ground and roasted in cast-iron kettles. The resulting warm paste is pressed in a hydraulic press. Following mechanical extraction, the oil is lightly filtered and bottled. Walnut oil is extracted from English walnuts only.

California Walnut oil cracks Hall of Fame
San Francisco Chronicle "The toasty, nutty taste of La Tourangelle so impressed the tasters that they awarded this oil 89 out of a possible 100 points -- enough to catapult La Tourangelle into the Taster's Choice Hall of Fame, for products that score 80 or more in a blind tasting." La Tourangelle Roasted Walnut Oil beat their closest competition by 20 points. June 2005
