In July of 1945, at the age of 18, “Mom”, (known today a Doris Flocchini) boarded a bus in Minnesota with a girlfriend and one small suitcase. They spent three days and nights riding that bus west to California, in order to move to a town called Lincoln, where they had never been before.
She opened “Pastries Plus” in 1976 with her daughter, Coleen, then opened “Sandwich Alley” in 1979, both in Lincoln, CA. “Sandwich Alley” was purchased from her by her youngest daughter, Diana, in 1992 and still operates at the same location, 648 5th Street, under the name of “Simple Pleasures Restaurant & Catering.” Now, at the age of 82, Doris still works there several days a week.
Two of her four daughters, Diana and Coleen, have started a new fine food company that they have named Mom Likes Me Best! The “flagship” product is Mom’s favorite potato salad dressing. |
